Johan Botha

Big hitting all-rounder Johan Botha returns to the Sixers for BBL|06 as a local player after becoming an Australian citizen in 2016.

The former South African One Day Captain has played for the nation of his birth in all three formats of the game, but has called Australia home for the last four seasons.

After playing for and captaining the Adelaide Strikers from 2012/13-2014-15, he joined the men in Magenta for BBL|05 on a three-year deal.

Known for his economic off-spin bowling, and his ability to clear the rope down the order, Botha returns to the Sixers for his second season following a promising debut season, scoring 99 runs and taking two wickets.

He is in good form in the T20 format having hit 102 not out for 47 balls in the Kingsgrove Sports T20 Cup recently and also collecting 5-12 and a hat trick!

He is familiar with the SCG having made his Test debut at the storied venue in 2006, where he captured his first Test wicket of former Thunder captain Mike Hussey.

Growing up in South Africa, Botha was a medium-pace bowler up until the age of 23 at which point he was encouraged by coach Mickey Arthur to try and focus on spin bowling. 12 months later he was in the Test side showcasing to all what a smart move the switch was!
