Thirty-one-year-old Dan Smith will join the Sixers squad for his second season for BBL|02 in his role as second wicket-keeper behind captain Brad Haddin. Also a handy batsman, ‘Smithy’ has played 25 first-class matches for NSW, his highlight being a fantastic knock off 185 not out, including 12 sixes, against Victoria at North Sydney Oval in 2011.
One of the comics in any squad, Dan has the talent on the pitch as well and has the ability to smash any bowler out of the park. He started life in First Grade as a 15-year-old, and lists Boonie’s catch off Warne at the MCG in 1994-95 as his favourite sporting moment. When asked who would play him in a movie he said ‘probably a ‘C’ Grade actor!”.
Provides us with a backup for Haddin and can be explosive with the bat, as he displayed for NSW two seasons ago
