The Sydney Sixers are committed to the inclusion of transgender and gender diverse people from community to elite level sport. In developing the following strategy, the club has reaffirmed its social responsibility to encourage others to be themselves, supporting clubs and associations to welcome and include those from diverse backgrounds, and host Pride themed women’s and men’s Big Bash League games to highlight the importance of inclusion to the wider community. Working closely with LGBT Charity Proud2Play, the following plan has been devised for the 2019-20 season:

Rainbow Families Come and Try Event  

70 kids from Rainbow Families are expected to enjoy a clinic and activities as provided by the Sydney Sixers on November 9 as part of the Rainbow Families Kids Resilience Camp at Narrabeen. The goal is to develop enough interest from the families to establish an all-inclusive social introductory cricket program for all ages based at a local cricket club/s.

Benefits for local cricket clubs:

  • Increased membership base
  • Potential to increase number of volunteers
  • Opportunity to be part of the first pilot program of its kind in NSW
  • Be known as a hub for diversity and inclusion – Safe Spaces sticker to be provided

Pride Party WBBL

  • Sunday November 17 @ Drummoyne 2:10pm Vs Renegades.
  • Official invitation to Rainbow Families to enjoy the first ever WBBL Pride Party, demonstrating the clubs commitment across its womens and mens squads.
  • Expect to see the ground filled with rainbow flags and messaging!

Club & Association Education

Working in partnership with LGBT Charity Proud2Play, the Sydney Sixers are excited to offer all clubs in NSW the opportunity to participate in a club education session which will:

  • Provide tips and tools to engage participation of LGBT people in clubs.
  • Proud2Play will provide a guest speaker to present on best practice and open questions from the community.

Introduce you to the Cricket Australia Policy for the inclusion of transgender and gender diverse people in elite and community cricket.

A Facebook live option will be available for all those wanting to tune-in from home.

Coffs Harbour

Pride Party BBL

  • Building on the inaugural Pride Party in 2019, the 2020 BBL Pride Party will be on Thursday January 16 @ 7:10pm SCG Vs Hurricanes.
  • Sixers pride flags and personalised Insta Banners to be made available for fans.
  • Education and messaging to fans on: anti-homophobic and anti-discrimination, including community and elite level guidelines.
  • Invitation to local organisations: Proud2Play, Rainbow Families, Twenty10, Mardi Gras/Fair Day, Pride in Sport.

Post Season Engagement and Future Engagement

  • The goal is to develop a 3-year strategic plan in conjunction with stakeholders to inform us on currently community challenges to remain relevant in the community.
