09 July 2018

Sydney Sixers opening batsman Joe Denly made Twenty20 history on Friday by becoming the first player to score a century and take a hat-trick in the same match.

Playing for Kent Spitfires in England's Twenty20 Blast competition, Denly smashed 102 from just 63 deliveries to help his team amass an imposing score of 6-173.

The 32-year-old then followed up his century by claiming a hat-trick with his part-time leg spin on his way to figures of 3-31 from four overs as the Spitfires held on for a six-run victory over Surrey.

In his four matches for the Sixers last season, Denly amassed 146 runs at an impressive strike rate of 131.53.
