Denly, who was named MVP for this summer’s T20 Blast league in England following an impressive campaign with Kent County Cricket Club will be a familiar face to Sixers supporters who witnessed the 32-year-old in magenta last summer.

The right hander was a mid-season signing for the Sixers in BBLI07 and played a significant role at the tail end of the campaign, hitting 146 runs in his four-game stint, all of which ended with a Sixers victory.

The Englishman has been in fine form across the pond and has reportedly caught the eye of the ECB national selectors and could be in-line for an England call up for the tour of Sri Lanka in October and November. The ECB are expected to make a squad announcement later this week.

Recently announced as the highest run scorer in the history of England’s T20 domestic league with 3927 runs to this name, Denly will bring a wealth of T20 experience to the Sixers squad.

Head Coach Greg Shipperd is backing the Englishman to be a hit this summer.

“We are delighted to announce Joe as our first international signing for this coming season," Shipperd said.

He made and incredible impression within our group as an opener, but also offers us another spin bowling option”

“Having watched Joe’s form in domestic cricket in England, it’s clear he is at the top of his game right now. He is an all-round package that we are extremely excited about.”

On signing for the Sixers, Joe Denly said, “The Big Bash has always been a competition that I’ve wanted to play in and I’m very proud to be part of it. I had a ball of it last time and I’m looking forward to it again this year.”

Speaking on his expectations this summer Denly added, “To build upon what we created at the end of last season and push for trophies.”

General Manager of the Sydney Sixers, Jodie Hawkins said, We can’t wait to welcome Joe back in magenta this summer.”

“He had a pretty impressive stint with us last summer and has been in great form ever since. Not only does Joe meet our skill requirements, but he is also a perfect fit within our Club values and adds enormously to the team on and off the field.”

Denly will join up with his new teammates ahead of the season opener against Perth Scorchers at the SCG on Saturday 23rd December.

Tickets for this summer’s KFC Big Bash will go on general sale on Thursday 4 October via the official Sydney Sixers website.
