Botha and Billings lead the way as Sixers stars gear-up for BBL|07

04 December 2017

The Kingsgrove Sports Twenty-20 Cup continued around Sydney on Sunday, and with many away on NSW Sheffield Shield duty, a couple of Sixers stars turned out for their respective club sides, as preparation for the season opener against the Sydney Thunder on December 19 ramped up.

Sam Billings donned the black and blue for Penrith Cricket Club, and duly steered his side to an eight-run win over Campbelltown-Camden, top scoring with a 21-ball, 37.

Sixers veteran Johan Botha was even more impressive, taking 3/13 and scoring 27 to defeat Shane Watson’s Sutherland outfit in a last ball thriller.

In Saturday’s grade cricket action, Henry Thornton and Ashleigh Gardner both got through a handful of overs each, getting miles in their legs before their respective opening Big Bash rounds.

Thornton was miserly for Eastern Suburbs in their two-day clash with Fairfield-Liverpool, recording figures of 0/10 off 8 overs, whilst Gardner bowled 10 for her club side, Northern Districts, in their clash with Campbelltown-Camden.

Elsewhere, day one of the Sheffield Shield clash between the NSW SpeedBlitz Blues and the Tasmanian Tigers was washed out. With no less than seven Sixers players listed for the Blues, here’s hoping the weather gods look kindly on Tasmania over the coming days!
