New Women's League to feature touch of Magenta

Four members of the Sixers first ever WBBL squad will line up in the inaugural English Super League following the announcement of teams by the English Cricket Board (ECB).

The six team competition will contain three International players each, with Sixers Captain Ellyse Perry set to be joined in the competition by the club’s three international players from WBBL|01.

Perry will line up for the Loughbourough Lightning, while Laura Marsh (England) and

Marizanne Kapp (South Africa) will play for the Surrey Stars. Big hitting New Zealander Sara McGlashan – who hit the equal most sixes in the WBBL competition – will line up for the Southern Vipers.

Seven Australians in total will feature in the Super League, while many other internationals from WBBL|01 will ensure the competition running from July to August will provide a fantastic chance for players to make their case for a roster spot in WBBL|02.

As reported recently, the contracting period for WBBL|02 started this month. Learn more about that here.

Speaking on the launch of the competition, Ellyse Perry believed it would be a great success given the strength of Women’s Cricket.

“It’s another wonderful opportunity and a fantastic development for Women’s cricket globally,” she said.

“I think they (WBBL and Super League) will be different in a lot of ways, but I really enjoyed playing in the WBBL this year and similarly I think it will be a really great experience going over to England and playing in their version of the competition.”
