Friends Cricket Club win Sixers Smash at Macquarie University

31 October 2017

Friends Cricket Club were crowned champions of the Sixers Smash event at Macquarie University on Sunday.

The Sixers Smash event was held in partnership between Macquarie University Cricket Club and the Sydney Sixers to engage with local and international students. Seven teams took part in the 8-a-side T20 tournament held on campus.

Friends Cricket Club played MGSM Boys in the final. MGSM Boys batted first and managed to score 53 runs in their 7 overs. Having won 3 games already, Friends Cricket Club made light work of the run chase and will now progress through to the final stage to take on the other Sixers Smash champions.

Winning captain Muhammad Atif said his boys really enjoyed the Sixers Smash and it was a great way to take their mind off studying.

“Cricket is in our veins, we love cricket and it’s not easy to come and play while studying, but we come because of our love for the game and give our time to cricket,” Atif said.

Several international students were also selected to take part in the Cricket NSW/Sydney Sixers internship program.

The Sixers Smash is supported by StudyNSW:

StudyNSW is a NSW Government initiative focused on making the experiences of international students better, safer and more enjoyable in NSW.
