Skipper Daniel Hughes hit the highest BBL score by a Sixer guiding his side to a famous victory against the Stars in the grand final rematch at Metricon Stadium, Gold Coast.
Chasing 194 to win and needing 20 from the final over, Hughes hit two sixes and a four before he departed for 96 from 51 with the Sixers needing four to win. Four leg byes from the pad of Steve O'Keefe sealed victory with one ball to spare.
It was the greatest chase by a Sixers team in BBL history and put the men in magenta top of the BBL|10 table. Hughes hit seven sixes in his match-winning knock as acting captain for Moises Henriques.
Cameos from West Indian duo Carlos Brathwaite (21 from 12) and Jason Holder (18 from 11) were key at the back end of the chase.
Blazing knocks by Glenn Maxwell and Nicholas Pooran looked to have stolen the game away but the Sixers had the final say in the teams' first meeting since the victorious BBL|09 Final.
Stars captain Maxwell (71 not out from 47 balls) added 125 with Pooran (65 off 26) leading their side to 5/193. Their partnership rescued the Stars innings from 4/49 in the ninth over.
Josh Philippe's 22 from 19 balls took him to 1,000 T20 runs. With the ball, Steve O'Keefe claimed 2-13 from his two overs.
