South African allrounder Marizanne Kapp’s 68 not out from 53 balls on Sunday at Hurstville Oval was not quite enough to reel in the big total posted by the Perth Scorchers who won by 36 runs.
Kapp's highest WBBL score was only bettered by Scorchers’ opening pair Sophie Devine, who scored a match-defining century, and Beth Mooney (60) in Perth’s huge total of 4/183. The Sixers made 5/147 in response.
Devine hit 103 from 68 balls including seven sixes. She shared a 151-run partnership with Mooney.
It was Kapp’s third fifty in the competition that included five fours and two sixes. The early loss of Ellyse Perry, Ashleigh Gardner and Alyssa Healy halted the top order momentum required to chase down 184.
Kapp was just as good in the field plucking the ball mid-air, full stretch to her right at cover, to break the Devine-Mooney partnership, and remove Mooney, submitting another nomination for catch of the season which the Sixers have already contributed many in WBBL|06.
It gave her wife South African captain and leg-spinner Dane van Niekerk her first wicket and she was soon on a hat-trick after bowling Megan Banting, first ball.
Van Niekerk finished with 2-33.
