Sixers rising super star Josh Philippe passed fifty for the second time in BBL|10 to steer the Sixers to victory in the season’s first Sydney Smash at Manuka Oval, Canberra.
Player of the Match Steve O’Keefe also returned his best BBL figures with 3-15 from four overs in the five-wicket win.
Chasing 129 to win from 14 overs under the Duckworth Lewis Stern method, due to a rain delay, Philippe smashed seven fours and two sixes including 23 from the second over.
Sixers earning the victory with eight balls to spare and finishing 5/132. Thunder made 6/166 from their 20 overs adjusted for the rain.
Philippe's innings took him to the top of the BBL|10 run-scorers’ list with 337. The Sixers fast start guaranteed another Bash Boost point and the win kept them on top of the BBL|10 table.
O'Keefe's second over was a turning point with two wickets including English opener Alex Hales for 54 from 33 balls.
Hales and Daniel Sams (50 not out from 37) were the two Thunder batsmen to make 50.
