Nevill, who played for the Sixers in BBL|01 and in the Champions League T20 in South Africa, returns following the retirement of both Brad Haddin and Ryan Carters after last season.
A feature of the NSW Blues, Nevill brings his sharp skills behind the stumps and a solid batting average to the team. Considered one of Australia’s leading wicket keepers, the Sixers have secured his services on a multi-year deal.
Head Coach Greg Shipperd said Nevill’s addition brought both his unique skill set and experience to the squad.
“The Sydney Sixers are very pleased that one of NSW and their own favourite sons is coming home to continue his T20 career,” Shipperd said.
“Peter brings his experiences from outside back with him and we hope to utilise his domestic and international knowledge in our favour. Highly respected throughout the cricketing community he will fit straight back into a squad he knows well.
“It is important that we continue the progress we made in achieving a grand final last year and peter with bat gloves and as a leader may just be that final piece of the puzzle.”
Nevill, 31, said the attraction for the Sixers was around mate ship and a feeling of coming home.
“It was a great opportunity to be back playing with people that I’ve played with extensively at NSW,” he said.
“One of my fondest cricket memories was winning the BBL|01 title with the Sixers and I’d love to win another one with the same guys.
“My best mates play for NSW and the Sixers so the ability to play all season with through, through state and then BBL cricket was a real attraction.
“The Sixers have a great environment, given the nucleus is similar to NSW, and I love the culture.
“Another factor was being able to spend the festive period at home in Sydney.”
Sixers General Manager Dominic Remond said Nevill’s addition was an excellent fit for the squad.
“It is great to have Peter back with the Sixers,” he said.
“He is the most outstanding keeper in the country, a dangerous middle order batter and most importantly and fantastic team man.
“We welcome his outstanding experience and calmness, the perfect addition to our Club to take us one further.”
Nevill’s signing comes after the re-signing of Sean Abbott recently and adds to the Sixers squad of Moises Henriques, Jackson Bird, Johan Botha, Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Lyon, Nic Maddinson, Steve O’Keefe and Jordan Silk.
Sixers Memberships are on sale now ahead of a big season of Big Bash with the Sixers playing 5 games at the SCG, three as double headers, as well as fixtures at North Sydney Oval and Hurstville Oval in Sydney, and North Dalton Park in Wollongong.
