Gardner starts summer in style

26 September 2020

Sydney Sixers allrounder Ashleigh Gardner has scored a crucial 61 from 41 balls to help Australia defeat New Zealand in the first International of the summer.

Six months after Australia’s last Women’s T20 International – the World Cup Final before 86,174 at the MCG – Gardner showed poise and power to top score in the 17-run T20 win.

Gardner landed three sixes onto the hill at Allan Border Field in Brisbane targeting the mid-wicket region.

Australia defended 6/138 restricting New Zealand to 7/121 from its 20 overs. Gardner came to the crease at 3/46.

Sixers super star wicketkeeper-batter Alyssa Healy showed her class with the gloves with a very handy stumping of New Zealand captain Sophie Devine and a reactionary, shoulder height catch standing up to the stumps.
