But that won’t stop the reigning champions from chasing a victory that could propel them into top spot on the ladder and guarantee hosting rights for the BBL|10 Qualifier next Saturday against the Perth Scorchers.
The Sixers enter the final day’s play of the regular season sitting behind the Scorchers on net run rate alone and the top finisher will be decided by results in the Scorchers clash with Brisbane Heat and the Sixers’ battle with the Stars.
The Sixers are looking to bounce back to winning ways at the MCG after consecutive losses against Sydney Thunder and Hobart Hurricanes.
Speedster Sean Abbott, who returned to the Sixers line-up in the loss to the Hurricanes on Sunday taking his 100th BBL wicket, said while it was important to “time your run well” in a tournament like the Big Bash, a win on Tuesday was just as vital to regain winning momentum.
v. Melbourne Stars
15 matches. 8 wins, 7 losses.
“(We’ve discussed as a group that) we are in a privileged position after our form throughout the season… we have probably afforded ourselves a couple of chances,” said Abbott.
“(But) we can’t afford to be complacent, so we’re just putting that out of our minds and putting our best foot forward (against the Stars)."
The Sixers have named a 19-player squad for their final regular season game, to be trimmed to 13 players, with the final 11 announced at the bat flip.
