Sixers Academy defeats Auckland

06 November 2018

The Sixers Academy opened their Quin Series campaign with an 8-run victory over the Auckland Aces at Hurstville Oval on Monday afternoon.

The Aces won the toss and sent the Sixers into bat, with opener Justin Avendano immediately going on the attack.

The North Sydney product blasted 12 sixes and 4 fours on his way to an impressive total of 122 from just 63 balls.

Avendano took a particular liking to the bowling of Teja Nidamanuru, smashing 6 sixes off one over as he set up a monster total.

He received solid support from captain Param Uppal who chimed in with 32 from 23 balls as the Sixers finished with 4/204 from their 20 overs.

The Sixers claimed wickets at steady intervals during the Aces innings, but struggled to contain power-hitter Brian Barnard, until he was dismissed late in the innings off the bowling of Austin Waugh for 84 from just 42 balls.

Waugh was the pick of the Sixers bowlers, finishing with figures 3/18.

He was well supported by quick Nic Bills, who claimed 2/21 and bowled superbly in the final over, restricting the Aces to just 2 runs to secure the victory.
