The Sixers Academy, captained by Jack Edwards, won the toss and elected to field first.
The squad featured a host of familiar faces, including contracted players Justin Avendano and Daniel Fallins, as well Ben Manenti, who donned the magenta with distinction during BBL|08.
Manenti took the new ball and delivered four economical overs to finish with figures of 1/19. He was ably supported by Fallins who claimed 1/ 22 from his four overs. Joel Foster claimed a trio of Hurricanes scalps to finish with figures of 3/37.
Ultimately, the Hurricanes were restricted to 7/143 from their 20 overs, witch Charlie Wakim the pick of the batsmen, making 51 from 36 balls.
The Sixers run chase was ably led by Avendano, who belted 78 not out off just off 54 balls, and was ably supported by Nick Bertus (27 off 32) and Nick Stapleton (28 off 24).
However, in the end it wasn't enough, with Lachlan Hearne dismissed on the last ball of the Sixers innings with the scores level.
A super over was needed to separate the two sides, with the Hurricanes eclipsing the Sixers' total of 10 runs on the final ball of their over.
