The 21-year-old West Australian has signed a one-year contract with the Sixers.
It’s been a big 12 months for Philippe, first hitting the headlines with a brilliant 88 for a WA XI against England at the WACA last summer.
The big-hitting batsman has been a regular in the Warriors’ Sheffield Shield and 50-over teams this summer, hitting his maiden first-class ton against Victoria last month and also three half-centuries in the JLT One-Day Cup.
Philippe will join a Sixers squad which now boasts a wealth of exciting young Australian talent, including new recruits Justin Avendano, Jack Edwards and Lloyd Pope.
Philippe will link up with his new teammates next month ahead of the season opening clash against Perth Scorchers at the SCG on Saturday 22 December.
Speaking on signing for the Sixers, Philippe said: “I’m excited about the opportunity the Sixers organisation presented, working with Greg Shipperd and the world class playing list, I see it as a great base to launch my Big Bash career.”
Sydney Sixers Head Coach Greg Shipperd said: “The Sixers are thrilled to have secured the services of in demand young batting talent in Josh Philippe who has impressed many people as a dynamic hitter if the ball.”
“Having lost a number of more senior batters from last year’s group, we are happy that Josh joins our other new talent Jack Edwards and Justin Avendano as we put together a fearless new line up.
“Josh as a wide array of strokes on both sides of the wicket and has versatility around batting anywhere in the line-up.
“I’m sure it will be very good for Josh to experience the conditions at the SCG and our Sixers environment. We look forward to a very productive relationship with him.”
The Sixers will open their BBL|08 campaign against the Perth Scorchers at the SCG on Saturday December 22. Tickets are available HERE.
