Sixers suited for Comm Games

10 April 2018

Like a lot of Australians, we here at have spent much of the past week absorbed by all action taking place at the Commonwealth Games. It made us wonder, if we were a nation of the Commonwealth, which of our Sixers could we see competing on the Gold Coast? Here's what we came up with:

Alyssa Healy - Lawn Bowls

Healy has made it very clear on social media that she's a big fan of all the lawn bowls action taking place on the Gold Coast. We're curious to see if this self-proclaimed 'expert' can back it up on the greens.

Mickey Edwards - Basketball

At 198cm tall (or 6'6" in the old scale), Edwards would not look out of place in a Boomers jersey. Although, he'd still only be the eighth-tallest member of the Australian team competing on the Gold Coast.

Carlos Brathwaite - Decathlon

Brathwaite's all-round ability on the cricket field is well-renowned, so we're interested to see how that translates to track and field. The West Indies international's diverse skill-set is sure to hold him in good stead for this multi-sport event.

Jordan Silk - Gymnastics

Silk has shown some serious acrobatics in the field during his time with the Sixers (see below), so we think making the transition to the world of gymnastics wouldn't be too difficult for the 25-year-old.

Jordan Silk - Compare the Catch

Dane van Niekerk - Cycling

We're basing this decision purely on the fact we spotted a South African cyclist with the initials D. van Niekerk in action while watching Channel 7's coverage from the Gold Coast velodrome the other day. Turns out it was Danielle van Niekerk competing in the 3000m individual pursuit. Could she be a relative of Dane's, perhaps?

Mitchell Starc - High Jump

Starc's brother Brandon is currently competing in the men's high jump on the Gold Coast (which made this photoshop job a lot easier). We're banking on the fact that some of Brandon's leaping ability has rubbed-off on Mitch.
