The Sixers campaign will kick-off on December 22 against the Perth Scorchers at the SCG, with the match broadcast live on Fox Sports.
Sixers top-order batsman Daniel Hughes has spoken of his excitement about playing the first match of the season against the Scorchers.
“They've been the benchmark for the last few years so if we can have a good start against them, that will sort of give us an idea of where we are at,” Hughes said.
The Sixers have a massive 14 games scheduled for the season, with 10 of them to be broadcast live on Channel 7.
Hughes is aware of the challenges ahead with an extended road-trip between the December 27 and January 16, where the Sixers will play five consecutive games away from home.
“It's going to be interesting to see how we go managing our bodies, with recovery and travelling and with the short breaks in between games this year.”
Hughes thinks the extended tournament won’t drastically change the team’s approach this season.
“It’s Twenty20 cricket, you don't approach it any differently its just a game of cricket, but with the scheduling now - more games, rest time and traveling - it's just how you manage that throughout the tournament.”
With pre-season already underway for the Sixers players who are part of the NSW Blues squad, Hughes is positive the men in magenta are ready to tackle a big season ahead.
“It's all very exciting. The boys are all fit and strong and they can't wait to get out there.”
