The Sixers were sent into bat by Stars skipper Glenn Maxwell, and got off to a less than ideal start, losing opener Jack Edwards on the second ball of the innings.
Joe Denly (14 off 15) and Daniel Hughes (20 off 14) looked to rebuild, but were unable turn their starts into the big score the Sixers needed.
Jordan Silk anchored the innings with a composed 41 not out off 37 balls as wickets tumbled around him, while Sean Abbott chipped in with a handy 22 off 16 balls.
The home side battled their way to 9/130 from their 20 overs.
Stars opener Peter Handscomb made light work of the run-chase, smashing 70 off 35 balls to put the visitors in control.
Ben Dwarshuis was the pick of the Sixers bowlers with figures 3/26, but his impressive effort eventually proved in vain, with the Stars reaching the target with 35 balls to spare.
