A combination of Sixers stars and train-on players competed against the Thunder, with our captain Ellyse Perry, Alyssa Healy and Ash Gardner absent due to the WT20 finals in Antigua.
The Sixers had a shaky start to the game with Thunder claiming the wickets of Tahlia Wilson, Erin Burns and Sara McGlashan out early on.
Despite the Sixers struggling at 3/27, Carly Leeson managed to produce some runs to give the Sixers a larger total to defend. Leeson smashed six fours, to finish on 48 runs off 35 balls.
Lauren Smith was another key contributor, hitting a crucial 28 runs off 19 balls. The Sixers finished on a positive 8/140 before Thunder came into bat.
Erin Burns took a valuable wicket and claimed 1/15 off of three overs.
Unfortunately 140 runs weren’t enough for the Sixers to defend and Thunder claimed the win, finishing on 2/143 with 3.1 overs to spare.
The Sixers first match of the WBBL|04 season starts on 1 December at the CitiPower Centre in Melbourne against the Melbourne Stars.
