Sixers show class in WNCL opening week

25 September 2018

The WNCL commenced in Queensland last week, where our Sixers women started to hit their form in preparation for a big summer ahead.

The NSW Breakers are currently sitting on the top of the table with six points.

Sixers captain Ellyse Perry produced at Player of the Match performance for NSW against Tasmania. Perry scored 67 runs (53 balls) where she blasted 10 fours and a six. She also took 3 wickets in the match. Alyssa Healy batted admirably at the top of the order and put 85 runs (75 balls) on the board. She smashed 12 fours and 2 sixes with the bat. In the field, she took two catches behind with the gloves and a stumping. Sixers spinner Lauren Smith also took the key wicket of Georgia Redmayne in the match.

Perry took two wickets in a close game against Queensland. Healy also took another two catches in this match.

Sixers all-rounder Clara Iemma has been great with the bat for the ACT Meteors. Iemma scored 35 runs (46 balls) and smacked five boundaries before being run out against Queensland. Sixers WBBL|03 recruit Erin Burns has also been handy with the ball with two wickets. The tournament now takes a break and will resume on 9 November.

Meanwhile, three of our Sixers stars, Perry, Healy and Ashleigh Gardner, are in the Australian Women’s squad to take on New Zealand in three T20 matches. Sixers WBBL coach Ben Sawyer has also been appointed assistant coach of the team. The first T20I is on Saturday night at North Sydney Oval
