Sixers wish Hastings well in retirement

13 November 2018

The Sydney Sixers congratulate John Hastings on a magnificent career, following his announcement that he has retired from professional cricket.

The 33-year old, who played one Test and 29 one-day matches for Australia and who was set to represent the Sydney Sixers in the upcoming BBL|08, confirmed his retirement following advice from health professionals.

The bowler and strong lower-order batsman, nicknamed The Duke, suffers persistent bleeding on his lungs when he bowls and this has been the cause of the announcement.

"I just want to say thank you to everyone in the Sixers family, especially (General Manager) Jodie Hawkins, who've been so amazing during a tough little period leading into my retirement," Hastings said.

"I want to wish everyone at the Sixers all the best for BBL|08."

A superb competitor of the game and fan favourite amongst supporters, everyone at the Sydney Sixers would like to wish John the very best in his future plans.
