Over the WBBL|03, outstanding performances have been shared across the entire playing group, and the most pleasing part for Lauren Smith, is that players have the ability to chip in across every aspect of the game, be it with the bat, ball, or patrolling in the field when the game starts to get close.
Not called upon to bowl on Sunday, Smith was sharp in the field, taking a superb turning catch to get rid of the dangerous Tahlia McGrath, before completing a stunning direct hit run-out off Sarah Coyte’s bowling late in the Strikers innings.
“If I’m not bowling, I’m going to try and do something else. I’m always happy to help the team out, as are we all.”
Focussing now on the finals, beginning with a clash against last weekend’s opponents, the Adelaide Strikers, Smith was clear about how each player in the squad would approach the lead in.
“It’s a tough end of the season, clashing with the Strikers. We are happy with how the weekend panned out, but ready to go for the finals.”
“Heading into them (the finals), it’s key to do your own thing at training and to focus on what you need to work on individually to tune up for them. It’s a short turn-around so we’ll keep that in mind.”
The Sixers will look to book a spot in the Big Final when they tackle the Adelaide Strikers on Wednesday afternoon at 2:40pm AEST.
