Sixers to turn SCG outfield magenta

01 April 2018

The Sydney Sixers will turn the SCG outfield magenta for their home games during BBL|08.

The initiative will bring even more colour and vibrancy to what is already shaping up as the most exciting Big Bash campaign yet.

The club expects the magenta outfield to become synonymous with Sixers matches at the SCG, developing into a proud tradition that is known throughout the sporting world.

"We already have one of the most iconic home grounds in world cricket," a Sixers spokesperson said.

"Adding the magenta outfield for our Big Bash fixtures will only add to that legend and provide a unique experience for fans and players alike."

The Sixers have drawn inspiration for the concept from the famous blue turf of Boise State University in the United States, pictured below.

The Sixers are in consultation with the SCG Trust regarding the installation of the magenta turf, which is grown offsite at a special turf farm in Southern California, so as to avoid disruption to other events at venue over summer.

"There are some logistics still to work through, but with it only being April 1st, we have plenty of lead in time before the start of the season to sort through those problems," the Sixers spokesperson explained.
