Coming off a devastating loss to the Perth Scorchers at the WACA, the Sixers will be searching for their first win of the series tonight. Despite the result, the Sixers can take some positives from the match at the “Furnace”.
The Sixers posted their highest total of the season so far with 167 runs against the top-of-the-table Scorchers and troubled them until the final over. We’ve also seen players perform brilliantly with the bat and ball.
Jordan Silk continues to execute with the bat in his last two appearances in magenta. He has been the highest run scorer for the team in the past two games scoring 50 and 45 runs.
Sam Billings has shown stable batting posting 33 runs against the Scorchers and maintaining a much needed 56-run partnership with Silk. Nic Maddinson has also been great with a few scores in the 30s and will be looking to go on to a bigger total.
With the ball, Daniel Sams has been excellent with six wickets in the competition. Ben Dwarshuis has come into the side in the last two games and taken big wickets and has been handy with the bat smashing boundaries.
Speaking to SEN Radio, Sixers coach Greg Shipperd says the team would love to be able to get a win on the board tonight after the loss against Perth.
“It’s been a disappointing campaign thus far but we need to get on a roll. Apart from our finish with the ball the other night, I thought we played a terrific game. We need to win all games going forward to qualify so it’s pressure on but that’s why we play the game to beat that ugly word.”
Shipperd also says the loss of certain players through absence and injuries has had an impact on the team but has given the opportunity to other players to perform on the big stage.
“There’s some challenges there but there’s opportunities there for players as well. We’ve been the ‘nearly’ team, we’ve nearly won. The tight moments last year we won them all and this year we’re just on the wrong side of the ledger.”
Renegades players to watch:
The experienced T20 player is the top run-scorer for the Renegades scoring 79 and 51 runs in their first 2 games. White is also a former Australian T20 captain who knows what it takes to win BBL games. White has scored over 1200 runs in the BBL and looms as a threat with the bat.
The international all-rounder has taken the most wickets for the team with 8 including a 5-fa against the Hobart Hurricanes. The West Indian player is a T20 expert who can be dangerous with the bat and ball at any moment in the game.
The former Australian spin bowler continues to cause damage in the Big Bash. Hogg has taken five wickets in the season so far and has claimed 59 wickets overall in the BBL competition.
The Sixers have beaten the Renegades in their last four meetings and we’re hoping to add another win against the team tonight. The game starts at 7:10pm on Channel 10.
