Sixers add promising young duo to roster

15 September 2018

The Sydney Sixers have today announced the double signing of Hayley Silver-Holmes and Stella Campbell on a two-year deal.

The Rebel WBBLI02 and  WBBL|03 Champions will now boast two of the youngest WBBL players on their roster this summer, following the signings of the two underage representative players.

Talented all-rounder Silver-Holmes, aged just 15, is the youngest player to sign a Sixers WBBL contract and the talented teenager already has a long list of credits to her name, representing Australia under-19’s in Sri Lanka and also captaining NSW under-15s .

“It’s a very exciting time for myself and for my cricket,” Silver-Holmes said.

“I’m really looking forward to being part of such a great team but also the challenge ahead. I will be pushing myself hard this summer, and listening and learning from my experienced team-mates.“

Promising fast bowler Campbell, aged 16, will join Silver-Holmes in a squad with a wealth of experience and is relishing the opportunity to learn from the likes of Ellyse Perry and Alyssa Healy.

Campbell who has also represented Australia under-19’s said: “It’s pretty surreal feeling to be joining such a successful team. There is so much experience in the squad and I can’t wait to pick their brains this season to help improve my own game.”

Ben Sawyer, WBBL Sydney Sixers Head Coach said: “I had the privilege of working with both girls during the Australian under-19’s Tour of South Africa earlier this year. On this tour, both girls showed tremendous skill, but more importantly a great work ethic and a desire to improve their games. Their enthusiasm to learn more about the game will serve them well during Big Bash, and their careers in general.”

Jodie Hawkins, General Manager of the Sydney Sixers said ”Both Hayley and Stella are mature young women who will add great depth to the Sixers squad. We have discussed their time commitments around schooling and ensuring they continue to put their education first and look forward to supporting them with their parents in the seasons ahead.”

The Sixers WBBL|04 campaign begins on Saturday 1 December at Junction Oval, Melbourne, before returning to Sydney for a festival weekend of cricket at North Sydney Oval, beginning on Friday 7 December against Perth Scorchers.
