The Sydney Sixers have secured the signature of one of the world's biggest T20 drawcards, with David Warner signing on to play for the men in magenta this summer.
Warner's signing has further increased the rivalry between Sydney’s two KFC T20 Big Bash League teams and the stage is set for an exciting second season of the KFC T20 Big Bash League.
Warner, whose involvement will be restricted by his Test commitments, will join the likes of Brett Lee, Steve Smith and Stephen O’Keefe who led the Sixers to the first ever title.
Sixers General Manager Stuart Clark said Warner’s signing was a great benefit for the Club.
“Warner is a great T20 player and is clearly an asset to any team he joins,” said Clark.
“We are really happy to have him with the Sixers and we’re sure he’ll really enjoy his time, however brief, in magenta. We have a lot of fun here.”
Warner is also excited to be joining the Sixers and linking with his Cricket NSW team mates.
“I am looking forward to pulling on the magenta and joining some of my NSW team mates for the BBL,” said Warner
“I had a great time last year at the Sydney Thunder and thank the fans and ANZ Stadium for their support, but I’m an Eastern Suburbs boy and I am really looking forward to playing at the SCG for the Sixers.”
The Sixers will take on Warner’s former team and arch rivals the Sydney Thunder in the season opener on 8 December at the SCG before backing up a week later on 16 December at home against last year’s finalists, the Perth Scorchers.
The final two home games for the Sixers fall on Boxing Day against the Hobart Hurricanes and 9 January against the Melbourne Renegades.
