The Sixers campaign will begin on Saturday 1 December in Melbourne, as part of a blockbuster weekend of cricket, with broadcasters Channel Seven, Fox Sports, and ABC Radio all covering the standalone opening weekend.
Sixers supporters can look forward to a packed December schedule which will see the team, led by Australian international Ellyse Perry, play seven matches.
Perry, the 27 year-old fan favorite will be hoping to replicate her stunning batting performances from WBBL03, which helped secure the title for the Sixers last summer.
The Sixers first home fixture will form part of an entertaining festival weekend of cricket at North Sydney Oval, the home of women’s cricket in Sydney, which attracted a record-breaking crowd of over 10,000 supporters last summer.
The opening match of the festival will see the Sixers face the Perth Scorchers on Friday 7 December, a rematch of the WBBL|02 and WBBL|03 Grand Final, whilst the ‘Sydney Smash’ fixture against the Sydney Thunder will be the second of the Sixers fixtures of the festival on Saturday 8 December. Both matches will be played under lights and aired in prime time on Seven and Fox Sports.
Hurstville Oval will also host two Sixers matches this summer on 23 December and 29 December, while the team will play in two double headers at the SCG on 22 and 28 December.
In a League first, WBBL finals will be stand-alone fixtures, guaranteeing the top ranked team will win the right to host at their home stadiums, in front of a home crowd. Both Semi Finals will take place on Saturday 19 December at the one location, with the Final to be played the following weekend on Australia Day, Saturday 26 January.
In addition to the unprecedented coverage from broadcasters, Cricket Australia will live stream the remaining WBBL matches on cricket.com.au and the CA Live App.
General Manager of Sydney Sixers, Jodie Hawkins, added “The Sixers couldn’t be happier with Cricket Australia’s decision to reward the top ranked Club with home Semi-Finals and Finals.
“It’s a great incentive for teams to continue to strive for the top of the table and be rewarded for consistent performances.
“We’re really looking forward to another great summer of the Women’s Big Bash League and see great crowds at all of our matches."
