Daniel Hughes is one of the Sixers’ all-time leading run-scorers and BBL|09 saw him claim his first BBL title.
Not only did Hughes become a BBL champion in 2019/20, he capped off a very successful year by winning his second Steve Waugh Medal in three seasons.
The left-handed opener was the leading run-scorer during the NSW Blues’ 47th Sheffield Shield title with 665 runs at an average of 44.33.
His 2019 Marsh One-Day Cup record was even better. Hughes struck 440 runs at the outstanding average of 73 finishing as the tournament’s leading run-scorer.
Against the white ball in 50-over cricket he averages nearly 60!
For the Sixers, he has scored 1,279 runs, in 51 matches, at a strike rate well above a-run-a-ball. During the BBL|09 title season, Hughes floated up and down the batting order, scoring 267 runs at a healthy strike rate of 124.18.
Hughes captained the Sixers for first time in BBL|09 when Moises Henriques became a Dad for the first time.
He led the Sixers to consecutive victories over the Adelaide Strikers in Coffs Harbour and at the Adelaide Oval.
Hughes rejoined the Sixers prior to BBL|06. He made his BBL debut in magenta during BBL|02, before spending two seasons with the Sydney Thunder.
Hughes hails from Cowra in Central Western NSW.
