Perry expecting WBBL to reach new heights

Speaking at the official launch of WBBL|03 on Thursday, Perry said she believes the increased level of professionalism in women’s cricket will translate to eye-catching on field performances.

“A lot of the girls in this competition have been full-time cricketers for at least six months, so from that point of view, it only means players are going to be better” Perry said.

“From a skills point of view and also an athletic point of view, they’ve had more time to focus on being stronger and fitter.

“Especially in T20 cricket where that athleticism and explosiveness comes into play so often, I expect everyone to be better than they were last year.”

The Sixers open their campaign against Melbourne Stars on Saturday, which will also serve as the Sixers Fan Day, followed by a clash with Sydney Thunder the following day.

“In a sense, the Stars are kind of our bogey team. I don’t think we’ve beaten them yet,” Perry said.

“Then obviously the Sydney Derby is probably the biggest game of the year outside of the Finals. We love playing those girls, we know them so well and there’s a really strong rivalry there, so I can’t wait for that either.”
