Sixers select second pick in Weber WBBL|10 Draft

The Sydney Sixers have drawn the second pick in the upcoming Weber WBBL|10 Draft, earning the opportunity to add another world-class player to their squad following the announcement of pre-signed international star Amelia Kerr yesterday.

The order of selections for all eight clubs has been determined via the Draft Lottery.

The Lottery, which was conducted via two draws, saw Picks 1-4 drawn from teams that did not participate in the WBBL|10 Finals, followed by last season’s finalists drawing for Picks 5-8.

The order of selections for the WBBL|10 Draft, determined via the Draft Lottery is:

1. Hobart Hurricanes

2. Sydney Sixers

3. Melbourne Renegades

4. Melbourne Stars

5. Sydney Thunder

6. Adelaide Strikers

7. Brisbane Heat

8. Perth Scorchers

Confirmation of the Lottery outcome follows today’s earlier announcement by the League of a two-year extension with WBBL naming rights partner, Weber Barbecues.

Weber, the world’s leading barbecue manufacturer, and the WBBL have built a formidable partnership since 2021. Together with the Sixers, the partnership has driven authentic connections by encouraging Australians to gather around the barbecue or at the game to enjoy summer, food and cricket.

The Weber WBBL|10 Draft will be conducted in four rounds, outlined below:

Clubs may select up to four overseas players in the Draft. This is inclusive of any pre-signed, multi-year international player – these players must be allocated to a Draft pick during the event, commensurate with the player’s salary band.

A fourth player (if selected) would become the club’s overseas replacement player.

As announced yesterday, the Sixers have signed New Zealand superstar Amelia Kerr on a multi-year deal, meaning the club will now have three overseas selections available remaining heading into the WBBL|10 Draft.

Alistair Dobson, Cricket Australia’s General Manager, Big Bash Leagues, said:

“The Draft Lottery forms a major piece of the puzzle as we build up to the Draft and Season 10 of Weber WBBL.

“The order of selections is vital for each club as they build their Draft strategy, which is even more intriguing this year with the addition of the pre-signed, multi-year internationals."

Dates and broadcast details for the Weber WBBL|10 Draft will be announced shortly.
