The Sydney Sixers are gearing up for a season to remember, with the official release of the complete Weber WBBL|11 fixture by the league today.
Fans can expect a blockbuster schedule of home matches in Sydney across November and December, headlined by the marquee Sydney Smash at North Sydney Oval on Sunday, November 30.
In a huge win for the club, Sixers fans will have the opportunity to see their team in action at home across each week of the competition, with the side’s home matches spread throughout the schedule.
Highlights from the Weber WBBL|11 fixture include:
- Home matches in Sydney across each week of the competition
- Four home games at the iconic North Sydney Oval
- Prime-time clashes against the Hobart Hurricanes (November 13) and Melbourne Stars (November 20)
- Blockbuster Sydney Smash at North Sydney Oval on November 30
- Family-friendly weekend timeslots on November 30 and December 7
Expect all eyes on North Sydney Oval
With four home games billed for North Sydney Oval, the fixture includes a mix of prime-time blockbusters, up against the Hurricanes and Stars, in addition to weekend timeslots with unmissable matchups against the Thunder and Strikers, perfectly suited for families and young fans.
The Sixers will kick off their home campaign with a Thursday night showdown against the Hurricanes, featuring #1 Draft pick Sophia Dunkley up against her national teammates, Nat Sciver-Brunt and Danni Wyatt-Hodge, in a must-see match.
The side will light up North Sydney Oval on November 20, going head-to-head with Meg Lanning’s Melbourne Stars, in a prime-time feature on the eve of the first Ashes Test in Perth. The match will also mark the club’s First Nation Round fixture, with the annual event celebrating the culture of the country’s First Nations people, and the side wearing shirts designed by Wiradjuri woman, Lua Pellegrini.
The Sydney Smash will also return to North Sydney Oval this season, headlining a massive day of entertainment at the venue on November 30. The highly anticipated grudge match will see the Sixers host the Thunder in a Sunday afternoon contest, with a double-header featuring the Heat and the Strikers, prior to crosstown rivals taking the field.
The Sixers will wrap up their home fixtures on December 7 with a Community Round celebration, hosting the Adelaide Strikers. The match will also feature a familiar face with former Sixer, Sophie Ecclestone set to make her first appearance at the ground in her new colours.
Expect high stakes battles on the road
Kicking off a massive WBBL|11 campaign in the west, the Sixers will make the road trip to Perth to face the Scorchers at the WACA on November 9, on the competition’s opening day.
The side will also face rivals Sydney Thunder at Drummoyne Oval and the Hurricanes at Ninja Stadium, before playing host to the Brisbane Heat at Adelaide Oval and meeting the Melbourne Stars back at Drummoyne Oval.
Rounding out their away trips, the Sixers are set for a mouthwatering clash against reigning champions, the Melbourne Renegades at Junction Oval on December 5.
Expect a fresh era of success
The Sixers will spring into the WBBL season, and into a new era for the side, with a new head coach following the announcement of World Cup champion coach, Matthew Mott as Charlotte Edwards’ successor earlier this year.
Mott will be flanked by a superstar lineup, with Alyssa Healy, Maitlan Brown, Lauren Cheatle and Ash Gardner all signed on for the upcoming season, in addition to the major boost of Ellyse Perry recommitting to the club for a further three years, last month.
The domestic lineup will also be joined by international stars Amelia Kerr – who returns for her second year with the club – and the #1 Draft pick, Sophia Dunkley.
Sixers General Manager, Rachael Haynes said the club is looking forward to getting the season underway.
“We’re entering a new decade of the WBBL, and the competition is only getting stronger. We know that in order to bring home another trophy this season, we’ll need to perform consistently, and at our best, and we’re ready for the challenge ahead.
“We’re in a really strong position with our list, particularly under the guidance of Matthew Mott. There’s a real sense of excitement within the group, and we know our fans will feel that energy this season.
“From world-class cricket on the field, to new and exciting match-day experiences off it, there is so much for our fans to look forward to this season, and we can’t wait to get underway in November.”
