The Sydney Sixers have continued strengthening their core for the future, with long-time star Josh Philippe extending his contact through to the end of the KFC BBL|16 season.
Philippe, who was already signed for the upcoming summer, is now secured for at least a further two seasons, in news sure to please Sixers members and fans.
A two-time Big Bash champion with the club (BBL|09, BBL|10), Philippe has proven himself a key piece of the Sixers’ success over the last seven seasons.
First making his debut with the Scorchers back in BBL|07, Philippe was pursued by the Sydney side, taking the gloves following the departure of two of the sport’s greats, Brad Haddin and Peter Nevill.
Celebrating his 100th appearance in Sixer’s colours last summer, the keeper joined club legends, Jordan Silk, Ben Dwarshuis, Sean Abbott, Steve O’Keefe and captain Moises Henriques in the milestone club, cementing his place in the Sixers’ history books.
Sitting behind only Henriques in runs scored for the club to date (2446 runs), Philippe leads the league for dismissals (99), demonstrating his outstanding performance with the gloves over the last eight seasons.
Sixers General Manager, Rachael Haynes said it was important for the club to continue looking forward and securing the club’s core into the future.
“Josh has been a core part of our team for the better part of a decade. He’s a Sixers person through and through, so it was a no-brainer for us to extend his time with the club.
“It’s crucial that we’re continually manage our list to ensure we’re in the best position, and we want to make sure our key players are locked in.
“We know how much our fans love Josh. He’s an entertainer on-field, and humble and hard-working off it – and we know our Sixers members will look forward to interacting with him for seasons to come.”
The Sixers are scheduled to kick off their KFC BBL|15 season, facing the Perth Scorchers in a must-see season opener at Optus Stadium on Sunday, December 14.
The side will open their home campaign against the Adelaide Strikers on Wednesday, December 17, with Sixers fans set for their first look at Pakistan superstar, Babar Azam.
