Young gun extends Sixers stay

One of Australia’s most exciting young talents has signalled his commitment to the Sixers, with Joel Davies extending his contract through to the end of the KFC BBL|16 season.

The young gun, who was already signed on until the end of the upcoming BBL|15 season, will now remain in pink for at least two years, in a major win for the club.

Making his debut alongside older brother Ollie at the Thunder two years ago, Davies made the move crosstown ahead of the BBL|13 season, swapping allegiances after being recruited by the Sixers.

A talented junior, Davies emerged as one of the standout products of the NSW pathways in recent years, promoted from a rookie deal to a full contract with the NSW Blues earlier this year.

An all-rounder by trade, Davies is a formidable left-hander batter, as well as a talent left-arm spinner, offered the opportunity to ply his trade under former Sixers spinner Steve O’Keefe and teammate Todd Murphy.

In addition to his ability with bat and ball, the 21-year-old has demonstrated class in the field, showing athleticism and agility in his appearances last summer.

Speaking about the opportunity extend Davies’ time with the club, Sixers General Manager Rachael Haynes said:

“Joel is a really exciting young talent and someone who we see playing a key role in our team for years to come.

“His skill set is well suited to our side – and we know how Greg (Shipperd) loves his all-rounders. He’s also someone that we see with huge potential, and is eager to learn from the players and coaches around him.

“We’re looking forward to seeing Joel in Sixers colours for years to come, and we know our fans will feel the same way.”

Speaking on his extension, Davies said:

“I’m pumped to be locked in with the Sixers for the next couple of years.

"This club feels like home, and I've enjoyed learning and growing alongside this group.

"I've loved every opportunity I've had to play in front of our members and fans. We've got a special group here and I can't wait to see what we achieve together. "

The Sixers will kick off their KFC BBL|15 season against the Perth Scorchers at Optus Stadium on Sunday, December 14.
