Hughes stays in magenta The Sydney Sixers have re-signed one of their most experienced and beloved players, with Daniel Hughes committing to the club for KFC BBL|15.
Hughes stays in Magenta
The left-hander first pulled on magenta in BBL|02, before a two-year stint with the Sydney Thunder. His homecoming ahead of BBL|06 marked the beginning of a defining chapter, establishing himself as a fan favourite and one of the club’s leading run-scorers.
A two-time Big Bash champion, Hughes has been a cornerstone of the Sixers’ batting line-up for more than a decade, notching up 2,365 runs across 106 BBL matches.
Sixers General Manager Rachael Haynes said Hughes’ re-signing was a welcome boost for the club.
“Daniel has been a fan favourite and a consistent performer for the Sixers over a long period of time.
“After the disappointment of missing most of last season through injury, we know he’s hungry to get back out there and contribute to some wins.
“His presence around the group brings confidence and stability, and we’re excited to see him back in action this summer.”
Hughes said re-signing with the Sixers was an opportunity he was eager to make the most of.
“Missing most of last season with injury was really frustrating, so I’m excited to have another opportunity in magenta.
“I’m looking forward to being back around the group, building some momentum and hopefully playing a part in another successful season for the Sixers.
“The support I’ve had from the members and fans over the years has been amazing, and I can’t wait to get back out there at the SCG this summer.”
The Sixers will kick off their KFC BBL|15 season against the Perth Scorchers at Optus Stadium on Sunday, December 14.
