Legendary fast bowler Mitchell Starc has re-signed with the Sydney Sixers for KFC BBL|15.
Mitch Starc is back
A foundation Sixer and dual trophy winner (BBL|01 and 2012 Champions League) with the club, Starc is slated to make his first Big Bash appearance in 11 seasons following the Ashes series.
Starc and his fellow WBBL and BBL Sixers will take the field this summer in their striking New Balance playing apparel, following today’s launch of a new on and off-field range.
The playing shirt combines cutting-edge performance technology with a striking magenta design, featuring a subtle block pattern and the iconic Sixers logo.
In seventeen seasons at the top level, Starc has cemented his reputation as one of the most destructive left arm fast bowlers to play the game.
His 725 international scalps rank him as Australia’s third highest all-format wicket taker behind only Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath, and 14th among bowlers from all countries in the game’s history.
Starc recently retired from T20I cricket with Australia but remains available for club and franchise duties outside of his Test and ODI commitments.
As per the past two BBL seasons, Starc has signed a marquee supplementary player contract with the Sixers for BBL|15. He is expected to link up with the squad following the Ashes series, with his availability for specific fixtures to be determined closer to that time.
Mitchell Starc, Sydney Sixers fast bowler, said:
“I can’t wait to pull on the Sixers’ fresh magenta playing shirt in BBL|15.
“Over the past decade I’ve stayed close to the club and, all things going to plan, am excited to get back on the field this summer.
“The Sixers are close to my heart and I have great memories of our BBL|01 and Champions League success. My goal is to help bring another trophy home to our passionate fans.”
Rachael Haynes, Sydney Sixers General Manager, said:
“When the opportunity arose to bring Mitch back to the Sixers, we didn’t hesitate.
“Mitch’s strike power with both the new and old ball is unmatched, and we hope he will play a vital role in our push towards the Finals.
“Even when not playing in recent years, Mitch has shown himself to be a great ambassador for the club and we look forward to that leadership playing a major role on and off field in BBL|15.”
Before Starc links up with his teammates in January, the Sixers will get their KFC BBL|15 season underway on December 14 when they take on the Perth Scorchers at Optus Stadium.
