Sixers contract up for grabs in Spring Challenge

The Sydney Sixers have locked in a group of local young guns ahead of the T20 Spring Challenge next week.

With international stars Alyssa Healy, Ashleigh Gardner, Ellyse Perry, Amelia Kerr (NZ) and Sophie Dunkley (ENG) away on ICC Women’s World Cup duties, the Sixers have turned to a new wave of local talent.

NSW Breakers pair Frankie Nicklin and Lauren Kua join the squad alongside U19 Australian all-rounder Lucy Finn, while Claire Moore makes the move from cross-town rivals Sydney Thunder to don the magenta in the 10-day tournament.

Sydney Sixers General Manager Rachael Haynes said she was thrilled to see the inclusion of young New South Wales talent into the squad.

“Whilst our international players are fighting to bring home a World Cup win, it’s a great chance for our next generation stars to wear the magenta.

“Our young talent has continued to impress at a state level and we are stoked to welcome these players into the Sixers.

“One WBBL contract is up for grabs in this tournament so it’s a great opportunity for the players to show us what they’re made of.

“We can’t wait to see the team take to field for the first time this season, especially right here in Sydney.”
