The Sydney Sixers have taken game one of the T20 Spring Challenge over the Hobart Hurricanes by six wickets at North Sydney Oval.
MATCH REPORT: Sixers win first Spring Challenge game
The Sixers won the toss and elected to bowl first on a greener wicket.
Caiomhe Bray sent Rachel Trenaman off for just 6 (7) bowled straight through for the first wicket of the day.
Maitland Brown following suit with a dismissal star Lizelle Lee caught at mid-on for 1 off 6 balls by Maitlan Brown.
Young gun Frankie Nicklin scored an important maiden over early in the first innings, but Villani & Nicola Carey built a strong partnership with the Hurricanes scoring 3/66 before drinks.
After 13.4 Overs, the Hurricanes brought up the 100 runs and off the next ball Carey scored a crucial 50 (46), before taking their power surge in overs 14 & 15.
Nicola Carey & Ruth Johnston brought up their 50-run partnership to start the 15th over before Johnston was caught 20 (17) by Elsa Hunter off young right-arm spinner Frankie Nicklin.
Nicklin then bowled Tabatha Saville cleanly sending her off for a first ball duck putting her on a hat trick ball which was hit away for a single by Hayley Silver-Holmes.
In the highlight of the match, sixteen-year-old pace bowler Caiomhe Bray ran out Carey in a brilliant piece of fielding dismissing her for 60 (50) throwing the ball smack into the wickets off a short single.
The Hurricanes finished on 7/143 as they headed into the field after the innings break.
With the bat, the Sixers were chasing a target of 143.
Nineteen-year-old gun Kate Pelle laid a strong foundation scoring 38 (38) to open the batting before being dismissed by Molly Strano finding Nicola Carey caught at mid-wicket for an impressive catch.
However, it was Sixers mainstay Maitlan Brown and fresh recruit Emma Manix-Geeves who brought the magenta home with an important partnership to finish the game.
Brown finishing on 26* (16) and Manix-Geeves on 29* (19) to bring the Sixers to 4/144 at the end of the match.
A strong start to the tournament for the magenta.
The Sydney Sixers will play the Perth Scorchers at Cricket Central, Sydney tomorrow from 10am.
