The Sydney Sixers have announced their squad to play the Melbourne Stars for the First Nations Round of the Weber WBBL|11 at North Sydney Oval this Thursday, November 20, from 7:10pm.
International recruit & star all-rounder Amelia Kerr will be unavailable for the match due to a quad injury sustained during warm up against the Sydney Thunder.
In her second year as a Sixer, young batter Elsa Hunter returns to the squad alongside fellow NSW Breakers’ teammate Lauren Kua who made her Sixers debut over the weekend.
The Sixers will take the field wearing a specially designed First Nations playing kit by award-winning Wiradjuri artist Lua Pellegrini.
The artwork tells the story of the Sydney Sixers as a club and reflects the team’s connection to its three home grounds, located on Gumbaynggirr, Cammeraygal, and Gadigal Countries.
The design incorporates symbols of gathering near water, the ocean’s importance to local communities, and the Sixers’ supportive community surrounding the three home grounds.
This year, the Sixers are honoured to be led by Ashleigh Gardner, a proud Muruwari woman and the first Indigenous captain in Sydney Sixers history.
The squad also features talented wicketkeeper and proud Palawa woman Emma Manix-Geeves.
