Sixers celebrate First Nations Round in Coffs Harbour

The Sydney Sixers will once again host their first home fixture of the New Year at C.ex Coffs International Stadium, taking on the Brisbane Heat for the First Nations Round next Monday, January 5th.

A modern staple on the Sixers’ calendar, the annual Coffs Harbour home fixture brings the world’s best cricketers to regional communities while the Sydney Cricket Ground hosts the final Test of the Ashes series.

The Sixers will face the Heat wearing their First Nations kit, designed by Wiradjuri artist Lua Pellegrini.

The design highlights the club’s strong ties to its three home venues: C.ex Coffs International Stadium, North Sydney Oval, and the Sydney Cricket Ground.
campaign.

Sydney Sixers General Manager Rachael Haynes said the Coffs Harbour fixture presents an important opportunity to connect with the wider Sixers community.

“Our players and staff relish the opportunity to bring the world’s best cricketers to regional communities while the SCG hosts the annual Pink Test,” Haynes said.

“First Nations Round remains a highlight in our season and provides a valuable opportunity for us to come together as a club and as a broader community.

“The Sixers are deeply committed to supporting grassroots pathways for Indigenous athletes in cricket, including our Sixers First Nations men’s and women’s teams, who will compete early this year.

“I would like to extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to Wiradjuri artist Lua Pellegrini for her outstanding designs featured on our First Nations kit.

“The Sydney Sixers would also like acknowledge and pay our respects to the Cammeraygal, Gadigal, and Gumbaynggirr peoples, the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we host our home games. This artwork reflects the deep importance of the ocean across the lands of the Sixers’ three home grounds; the SCG on Gadigal Country, North Sydney Oval on Cammeraygal Country, and Coffs International Stadium on Gumbaynggirr Country.

The ‘U’ shapes symbolise people gathering near the water, a significant aspect of Country for these communities and a site of connection. The ocean and surrounding waterways, including estuaries, have long been vital food sources for these communities.

At the heart of the design, three circles represent the Sixers’ home grounds, each surrounded by the Sixers community who support and uplift our players
