The Sydney Sixers today farewell one of the most iconic figures in Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) history, with Alyssa Healy confirming her retirement from the competition and bringing to a close an iconic chapter in the club’s journey.
A foundation member of the Sixers since the inaugural WBBL season in 2015, Healy has been a cornerstone of the team’s batting lineup and leadership core for more than a decade.
Across her WBBL career with the Sixers, Healy played 129 matches, scoring 3,125 runs at a strike rate of 133.72, including 15 half-centuries and 5 centuries, with the highest score of 112.
Behind the stumps she effected 60 catches and 45 run outs, combining her explosive batting with elite wicket-keeping skills.
Healy's prowess with the gloves and the bat have earnt her the phenomenal record of 21 player of the match awards across her WBBL career.
Healy’s contributions helped the Sixers secure two WBBL championships, and her remarkable presence on and off the field has been a defining feature of this club’s success.
Sydney Sixers General Manager & Healy’s former teammate Rachael Haynes said:
“Midge (Alyssa) is an icon of our club, our game and of sport in this country.”
“As a one club player and an inaugural Sixer, Midge has played an instrumental role in building the Sydney Sixers to become the franchise it is today.
“Midge is a larrikin, a leader and the ultimate teammate whose impact has pioneered change in our game, especially for female athletes.
“Midge leaves a legacy at our club that goes beyond words and we cannot thank her enough for what she has done for us at the Sixers and across the wider WBBL.
“On behalf of the Sydney Sixers, we wish her all the best for the future and we know she will continue to excel at whatever she puts her hand to after cricket.
“Thank you Midge- for everything.”
The Sixers will honour Healy’s incredible career at their upcoming home fixture at this SCG this Friday against the Sydney Thunder, where Healy’s husband and Australian fast-bowler Mitchell Starc is expected to don the Magenta for the first time this season.
We hope that the Sydney Smash is a fitting fixture to celebrating Healy’s achievements as one of the WBBL’s true greats, a NSW cricketing icon and a legend of Australian sport.
