The Sydney Sixers have locked in one of the Big Bash League’s most reliable performers, with Sean Abbott signing an extension that will keep him in Magenta until the end of BBL|16.
A heartbeat player for the Sixers, Abbott has been doing it all in the Big Bash for more than a decade — swinging games with the ball, chipping in with the bat and taking freakish catches in the field.
Across his BBL career, Abbott has played 128 matches, claimed 181 wickets at an average of 20.03 with a best of 5/16, and scored 612 runs at a strike rate of 113.54, while also taking 68 catches.
Sydney Sixers General Manager Rachael Haynes said keeping Abbott in Sixers colours was fantastic for the club.
“Sean (Abbott) brings an edge to everything he does,” Haynes said.
“He’s ultra-competitive, incredibly consistent and someone our group looks up to.
“Whether it’s with the ball in hand or setting the tone in the field, he makes things happen in the Magenta — and we’re thrilled to have him with us through to the end of BBL|16.”
Abbott said he was excited to roll on for another season with the club.
“I love playing for this team and in front of our fans,” Abbott said.
“The Sixers environment brings out the best in me and I’m hungry to help this group push for more success.
“I feel grateful to have been part of this group throughout my career and even more grateful to keep pulling on the magenta alongside my teammates.”
The extension provides further continuity for the Sixers as preparations continue for the upcoming Big Bash League season, with Abbott set to once again play a key role in the club’s campaign.
