The Sydney Sixers have finalised a two-year agreement with fast bowler Fergus O’Neill, securing his services through to 2028.
O’Neill joins the Sixers from the Melbourne Renegades and strengthens the club’s bowling group into the future.
A right-arm fast-medium bowler, the 25-year-old has built an outstanding domestic résumé through consistent performances for Victoria.
Born in Tauranga, New Zealand, O’Neill relocated to Australia at a young age and has developed into one of the most reliable seamers in the domestic system.
He has been a standout in the Sheffield Shield, earning Player of the Season honours in 2024–25 after taking 38 wickets at an average of just over 21, and has claimed more than 150 first-class wickets across his career.
O’Neill made his Big Bash League debut with the Renegades in January 2024 and brings growing T20 experience to an already deep and disciplined Sixers attack.
Sydney Sixers General Manager Rachael Haynes said O’Neill’s skill set and competitiveness made him an ideal addition to the squad.
“Fergus is a proven performer in domestic cricket and someone we believe has the tools to be highly effective in the T20 format for our club,” Haynes said.
“He’s relentless with the ball, brings great professionalism, and will add real strength and depth to our bowling group over the next few seasons.”
O’Neill said he was excited by the opportunity to join one of the competition’s most successful clubs.
“The Sixers have set the standard in the BBL for a long time, so to be joining a club with that culture and history is really exciting,” O’Neill said.
“I’m looking forward to working with the coaches and playing alongside a strong bowling group, and hopefully contributing to more success for the team.”
O’Neill will join the Sydney Sixers ahead of pre-season preparations for the upcoming KFC BBL|16 later in the year.
