Sydney Sixers all‑rounder Maitlan Brown has been drafted into Australia’s squad for this week’s day‑night Test against India at the WACA Ground, marking her return to the national squad for the first time since 2021.
Brown joins fellow inclusion Rachel Trenaman as cover for an injury‑affected Australian group, with Kim Garth (quad) and Sophie Molineux (back) ruled out and fellow Sydney Sixers’ teammate Ellyse Perry in doubt with a quad injury leading into the Series finale.
Brown’s selection comes on the back of an impressive domestic campaign with the New South Wales Breakers and the Sydney Sixers in the WBBL, where the 28‑year‑old fast bowler claimed 16 wickets in 10 matches and 13 wickets at an economy rate of 7.32, respectively.
If selected in the starting XI, it will be Brown’s international debut after overcoming a significant run of injury, which have dampened her Australian hopes since 2020.
With Perth’s pace-friendly conditions at the WACA, the stage is set for Brown to make a meaningful impact should she be called upon.
Australia will enter the Perth Test with both confidence and momentum, as India must outright win the Test to retain the multi-series format win.
The test in Perth will also be Australian Captain and Sixers legend Alyssa Healy’s last game of professional cricket before retiring from all formats.
The 14‑player Test squad features a mix of established stars and exciting young talent:
