Sixers celebrate 50 years of NAIDOC Week

The Sydney Sixers are proud to celebrate NAIDOC Week, recognising and honouring the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and marking this year’s theme, “Fifty Years of Deadly.”

This year’s theme marks a significant milestone — celebrating 50 years of NAIDOC as a platform, protest, celebration and powerful statement of survival.

Throughout the week, the Sixers will reflect on the role First Nations peoples have played in cricket and across the broader community, while reinforcing the club’s ongoing commitment to learning, respect and inclusion.

Sydney Sixers General Manager Rachael Haynes said NAIDOC Week provides an important opportunity to celebrate First Nations peoples and their contributions to cricket and beyond.

“NAIDOC Week is an important opportunity for us as a club to recognise and celebrate the history, resilience and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples both in cricket and beyond,” Haynes said.

“From providing opportunities for students from Redfern Jarjum College to attend home matches through to ongoing initiatives such as the First Nations T20 Cup, the Sixers remain committed to strengthening pathways for Indigenous cricketers from grassroots to the elite level.

“This year’s theme, Fifty Years of Deadly, honours the generations who have driven change, shared their stories and built a powerful legacy that continues to shape the future.”
