Thank You Moises

The Sydney Sixers today thank and congratulate Moises Henriques, with the foundation player and long-serving captain retiring from the BBL.

A three-time title-winning Sixer, including two as captain, Henriques departs as the most-capped player in Big Bash League history.

The Sydney Sixers look forward to celebrating Moises and recognising his outstanding contribution at the appropriate time this coming season.

Of his 160 Sixers appearances (including the Champions League), a record 129 came as captain across the BBL and WBBL.

Henriques' 15 seasons in Magenta yielded 3,410 runs averaging 27.95, 17 fifties, 30 wickets and 72 catches.

His feats with the bat were characterised by his composure under pressure, renowned for guiding the Sixers to victory countless run chases.

The most famous of these came in the competition’s inaugural final, where his innings of 70 from 41 balls led the Sixers to the BBL|01 title and earned him player of the match honours.

His domestic and international careers have both been highly decorated across all three formats.

From his beginnings in Madeira, Portugal to rising through the New South Wales system, Henriques made his first-class debut for NSW in 2006 before earning international honours, representing Australia in four Tests, 16 ODIs and 24 T20Is since his debut against New Zealand in 2009.

Beyond the numbers, it is his leadership, humility and influence that leave the most enduring mark.

The epitome of Sixers culture and identity, Henriques reached his 150th BBL milestone match for the club this summer before completing his final season in Magenta in the KFC BBL Final in Perth.

Following KFC BBL|15, Henriques was not offered a new contract with the club.

Sydney Sixers General Manager Rachael Haynes thanked Henriques for his tremendous contribution to the club.

“Moises is one of the most influential figures in Sydney Sixers and BBL history.

“His leadership, integrity and commitment have shaped the club into what it is today.

“To our fans, Moises will forever be credited as a key figure in our first three BBL titles – lifting the trophy twice as captain, and starring as player of the match in our inaugural championship final.

“We are deeply grateful for everything he has given the Sixers, and we wish him nothing but success in the next stage of his journey.”
