The Sydney Sixers have appointed four-time World Cup-winning coach Matthew Mott as BBL Head Coach for the next two seasons.
Mott returns to familiar territory, having previously served as a Sixers BBL Assistant Coach and as the club's WBBL Head Coach, last summer.
He will now transition to lead the Sixers' BBL program, with a new WBBL Head Coach appointed and set to be announced this week.
With more than 20 years of coaching experience across the domestic and international game, Mott has built an outstanding reputation for developing successful teams and delivering results on the biggest stages.
Most recently, Mott coached England's men's white-ball side from 2022 to 2024, guiding the team to victory at the 2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup and further cementing his standing as one of the game's premier coaches.
Before that, he spent seven years as Head Coach of the Australian Women's Team, overseeing one of the most successful periods in the game’s history, including consecutive T20 World Cup titles, the 50-over World Cup and four Ashes series victories.
Sydney Sixers General Manager Rachael Haynes said the club was thrilled to have him take on the role of BBL Head Coach.
"Matthew [Mott] is one of the world’s most respected and accomplished T20 coaches, with a proven track record of building successful teams," Haynes said.
"Since joining the Sixers, Matthew has made a significant impact across both our men's and women's programs, with his leadership, cricket knowledge and ability to build strong team cultures, making him an invaluable part of our organisation.
"With the potential for the BBL and WBBL windows to shift each season, we have appointed separate head coaches for each team to ensure continuity and long-term stability across both programs.
"While we considered Matthew's ability to lead both programs, we've taken a long-term view to ensure consistent and stable leadership across both teams.
"The strength of the candidate we have appointed as WBBL Head Coach gave us confidence that this was the right move for both programs, and we look forward to announcing that news in the coming days."
Incoming Sydney Sixers BBL Head Coach Matthew Mott said he was humbled by the opportunity to lead the men's program.
"I've been part of the Sixers family for a long time, so to have the opportunity to step into the BBL Head Coach role is something I'm incredibly excited about," Mott said.
"This is a club with a proud history and a winning culture, and I'm looking forward to building on the foundations that have been established over many seasons.
"Having worked closely with the men's program, I've seen first-hand the talent and potential within this playing group.
"While it's disappointing that I won't be able to continue as WBBL Head Coach, I'm incredibly grateful for my time with the women's program and wish Ash [Gardner], the players and support staff all the very best for WBBL|12."
