The Sydney Sixers have strengthened their squad for KFC BBL|16, securing explosive New Zealand opener Tim Seifert on a one-year deal.
One of the world's premier T20 players, Seifert arrives at the Sixers having established himself as a key member of New Zealand's white-ball side.
Since making his international debut in 2018, the right-hander has represented the Blackcaps in 90 T20 Internationals, scoring 2,279 runs at an average of 31.2 and a strike rate of 146.4, including 17 fifties.
Hailing from Whanganui, New Zealand, the 31-year-old has built a reputation as one of the game's most dangerous top-order bats.
Seifert arrives at the Sixers fresh off a remarkable Hundred campaign with Manchester Super Giants, where he was named Player of the Tournament after scoring 394 runs and capped the season with a match-winning 72 from just 38 balls in the men's final at Lord's.
His explosive innings, featuring seven sixes and four fours, earned him Player of the Match honours as he guided the Super Giants to a five-wicket victory over Trent Rockets.
Seifert joins the Sixers after extensive experience across the global T20 circuit, including stints with Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League, Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League, Manchester Super Giants in the Hundred, Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League and previously, the Melbourne Renegades in the KFC BBL|14 & BBL|15.
Sydney Sixers General Manager Rachael Haynes said Seifert would add proven class and firepower to the club's batting line-up.
"Tim [Seifert] is one of the premier T20 batters in world cricket, and his recent player of the tournament performance in The Hundred is another example of the quality he brings," Haynes said.
"We’ve admired him for a long time, and his experience, attacking intent and match winning ability makes him a fantastic fit for the Sixers. We’re thrilled to welcome him to the club.”"
Seifert said the opportunity to join one of the BBL's most iconic clubs was one he couldn't pass up.
"The Sixers are one of the most respected and successful clubs in the competition, so it's a privilege to be joining the group," Seifert said.
"I've always loved playing cricket in Australia and the Big Bash is a tournament I genuinely enjoy being part of.
"To now have the opportunity to wear the Magenta and help contribute to the club's success is something I'm really excited about."
